What “Freak” means: “Freak” inquires into the human, into humane behavior and its expression. “Freak” does not seek to judge or label; it merely observes. We embark on a journey into the humanly possible—we mean “manmade freak.” At the same time, this exhibition also ventures into different regions of photography. Among this collection of artists, each one holds their own viewpoint and highly aesthetic expression. What unifies them all is a deeply humane conviction.

What “Freak” is not: “Freak” is not an iteration of the nineteenth- and twentieth-century freak shows displaying aberrations from the “norm” at the cost of disabled people and/or people considered deviant in talent and appearance. We do not mean natural things out of the ordinary that come about through birth.
