KAI LÖFFELBEIN

Kai Löffelbein

The irresponsible consumption of limited resources is one of the most urgent problems of the globalized world. Electronic devices have become our everyday companions. While we seem to define ourselves through our computer, smartphone, and tablet purchases, we give very little thought to their disposal.
For years, Kai Löffelbein has been traveling around the world to photograph the socioeconomic effects of globalization processes in the twenty-first century for his long-term photographic projects. One particular interest of his focuses on the global chains of production and added value as well as the position humans occupy within these. The exhibition presents photographs from Africa and Asia. “With his work, Löffelbein has become a chronicler of turbo-capitalism, in which money is everything. His award-winning empathic photos are food for thought.” (Dennis Wagner)
Kai Löffelbein (born 1981 in Siegen) studied political science and documentary photography. In 2018, Steidl published his photo book Ctrl-X. A topography of e-waste.
