As part of the EMOP Berlin – European Month of Photography 2018, Leica Camera AG presents the photo series of the twelve finalists for the renowned Leica Oskar Barnack Award (LOBA). The international photo competition, which was launched in 1979, is divided into two categories: the Leica Oskar Barnack Award and the Leica Oskar Barnack Award Newcomer. Around 2,500 photographers from a total of 110 countries applied for the LOBA 2018. The competition invited submissions of photo series comprised of ten to twelve images that capture the relationship between humans and the environment in a way that’s perceptive, creative, and pioneering. The LOBA is one of the most highly endowed photography competitions in the field. The winner in the main category receives 25,000 euros as well as camera equipment from the Leica M-System (camera and lens), valued at 10,000 euros. The winner of the LOBA Newcomer receives 10,000 euros and a Leica M with lens. In addition to the two main categories, the photographic works of the ten finalists will be awarded with 2,500 euros each.
