THREE DECADES OF BERLIN
Urban Landscapes by the Photographer Thomas Platow
Thomas Platow
The exhibition ‘Urban Landscapes’ presents the work of Thomas Platow, a professional photographer from Berlin and the city's official photographic chronicler. Throughout the three decades between 1990 and 2020, from the time the Wall fell to the present day, Platow has been photographing the rapid changes Berlin has experienced on its path toward becoming the capital of reunified Germany.
His motifs range from architectural changes in the cityscape to images of political and social life, from the ‘International Green Week’ to state receptions.
Platow’s photographs are characterized by a sober documentary eye; they record the cityscape and everything the many social and architectural changes have added to or subtracted from it. In scenes and portraits, he captures the zeitgeist of these years in images that evoke the everyday reality of Berlin’s inhabitants.
