The Leica Camera AG presents the winner of the Leica Oskar Barnack Award 2019, Mustafah Abdulaziz, with his series Water, and the winner of the Leica Oskar Barnack Award Newcomer 2019, Nanna Heitmann, with her series Hiding from Baba Yaga.
In 2011 the American photographer Mustafah Abdulaziz began his long-term project on the subject of water. What does water mean to people on different continents and how do they deal with this vital resource? People’s relationship to water reflects how they treat their environment.
Nanna Heitmann ventures with her series into the realm of myth and legend. The Yenisei, one of the world’s longest rivers, became the common thread in these images of her journey through Siberia. On its banks she met loners, drop-outs, and dreamers, and captured their worlds with great sensitivity.
The Leica Oskar Barnack Award has existed since 1979 and is one of the most highly endowed competitions in the field of photography.
