European Month of Photography
The European Month of Photography, or EMOP for short, is an association of various photography festivals in European capitals. Founded 2004 by Maison Europenée de la Photographie (MEP) in Paris together with the cities of Berlin and Vienna, new network partners have joined the organisation ever since like Athens, Bratislava, Brussels, Budapest, Lisbon, Ljubljana, Luxembourg, Moscow and Rome.
Currently the cities Berlin, Brussels, Lisbon, Luxembourg and Vienna are working together. What all partners have in common is that each participating European capital organises a photo festival in its city either annually or biennially.
The European EMOP Network stands for strengthening photo festival culture that has continued to establish itself over many years – and making it visible. It points beyond its own borders and shows that more and more spaces are being established for photography – the decisive image medium of our present time – in which the social and artistic uses of the medium of photography are constantly being highlighted and negotiated anew.
At the centre of the European Network is the exchange about historical and contemporary artistic photography, the support of young international artists and to visualize the medium of photography in exhibitions and other mediation formats.
AIM
The aim of the European Month of Photography Network is to promote cooperation at European level, strengthen the international photography scene, intensify the exchange of information and experience and support young artists. The results of this exchange and collaboration are presented either in exhibitions and/or other mediation formats as part of the respective photo festivals. These could be publications, artist talks or panel discussions.

YOUNG TALENTS: ARENDT AWARD
A central activity of the EMOP Network is the biennial nomination of five international artists for the Arendt Award. The nomination is based on a theme previously announced by the network, on which the proposals are made. The nomination for the award is linked to a presentation of the artists' work in an exhibition in Luxembourg as well as an acquisition and a publication about their artistic work.
The award has been granted since 2014 by the eponymous Luxembourg law firm Arendt & Medernach and is presented every two years as part of the Luxembourg festival edition EMOPLUX.
