To mark the 200th anniversary of photography, the Senate Department for Economic Affairs, Energy and Public Enterprises is presenting the one-off EMOP GALLERY CONCEPT AWARD 2026/27. The award will be presented to ten Berlin galleries whose innovative exhibition concepts raise the profile of contempor ary artistic photography. In doing so, they help strengthen Berlin’s international appeal as a hub for cultural and creative industries.

EMOP Berlin – European Month of Photography 2027 announces the start of preparations for next year’s festival; the guiding theme of the 12th EMOP edition is Common Ground. Letters from Europe. The biennial photography festival will take place from March 4 to April 4, 2027, once again highlighting Berlin as a city of photography on both the national and international stage. At the heart of the festival are photographic works that explore Europe as a shared and fragile space of experience that calls for an ongoing renegotiation that is at once critical and ambiguous, documentary and poetic.
