The performances of the Berlin theatre group Theatre Artaud (1986–1991) were an opportunity for Amin El Dib to explore the theoretical writings of Antonin Artaud (1896–1948), who broke with the classic presentation of literature on stage and placed text, compositions, sound, voice, dance and gestures on an equal footing in his Theatre of Cruelty. The Artaud Portfolios (1988–1992) embody El Dib’s photographic interpretation of Artaud’s ideas.
A catalogue of the Regard Collection with texts by Amin El Dib and Susanne Husemann will be published on the occasion of the exhibition.
