Following six years of work on the research project 'Berliner Fotografenateliers des 19. Jahrhunderts' ['Berlin Photographic Studios of the 19th Century'] by students of museum science at FHTW Berlin [Berlin Technical and Business College], the results are now to be presented to the public. This selection of themes, materials and representative photographers should yield insights into a period of Berlin's photographic history to which little attention has been paid hitherto. Highly regarded representatives of the more than 1500 photographic studios investigated by the project will be shown for the first time in monographic form, in such a way as to illuminate the profile of this fruitful branch of industry in the life of the city. The exhibition resulting from the project not only gives the public a chance of seeing a great many original photographs, it also offers virtual forms of in-depth investigation and mediation.
