This exhibition is another comprehensive photographic show by the Landesmuseum Koblenz [Koblenz Federal State Museum]. Since the establishment of the museum's Federal State Collection on the history of photography in the federal state of Rheinland-Pfalz, the museum has been presenting regular exhibitions on photographic themes, together with accompanying publications detailing the research work carried out under the auspices of the Federal State Collection. The Federal State Collection aims to give an overview, as representative as possible, of the development of photography in Rheinland-Pfalz from the first beginnings to the present day, so also contributing to the preservation of our cultural heritage.
With its elaboration of one of the main themes of the Federal State Collection, the exhibition continues the tradition of major presentations in the past focusing on the Romanticism of the Rhine. More than 200 portraits, group photographs, pictures of prominent personalities and publicity shots ranging over more than 150 years of photographic history show first of all how our ideal of beauty has developed over time, and then too how profoundly the conscious presentation of the human being can be characteristically representative of a whole era and way of life.
