Oliver Kunkel: Sleeping Beauty Syndrome I
© Oliver Kunkel
Perception between simulation and dissimulation: six artists set out in search of truth and illusion. Often we automatically posit a reference object for things that are evident, even though in reality it does not exist. The heart of being is revealed only on a second inspection, while the photographed image is seen as the actual object. Thomas Sturm's exotic landscapes and cities show what is at once everyday and universal. Alireza Ghandchi focuses on fragments of his own body, overcoming the constraints of materiality through his non-spatial and timeless arrangements to get in touch with deep-seated emotions. Nan Hoover reveals the world as having a life of its own, one that can be minutely observed on the level of detail through the artistic arrangement of the natural. Helga Griffiths' 'Brainscape' is an experiment in the presentation of moments of surreal experience in the landscape of subjective consciousness. Timo Ohler makes a constant out of the dynamic process whereby pictures come into being, while Oliver Kunkel uses three-dimensional digital sculptures as the basis for creating pictures that resemble analog photographs.
