The pictures of Waldemar Titzenthaler one of the most important photographers of old Berlin that were left in a bundle to Landesarchiv Berlin include photographs of various regions of Germany and other European countries. As these pictures are for the most part new to the public, the Landesarchiv is taking the 3rd European Month of Photography as an occasion for presenting a selection of Titzenthaler's photos, most of them created in the years 1898 to 1912. Some of the pictures were taken with a plate camera in 24 x 30 cm format; for other 'pictorial studies' created by Titzenthaler on his travels, the artist relied on a small 9 x 12 cm Goerz camera with a lens of the Doppel-Anastigmat Dagor brand. In the latter case he used both glass plates and Tenax roll films.
Besides photos of the Mark of Brandenburg, the exhibition also includes pictures of other German cities and landscapes, as well as Britanny, the Pyrenees and the imperial city of Vienna.
