This exhibition demonstrates Krolow's artistry in a selection of photographs that were taken in the years 1990 and 1991, at a time of drastic political change, in various European cities and landscapes. In Volgograd for example, formerly Stalingrad, he documents dramatic changes in Russian daily life. In Albania he records what is still largely a rural way of existence but the eyes of the people he portrays here reveal uncertainty, a tense anticipation of something about to happen.
In Berlin at this time he documents the 'holing' of the Wall, as the former 'death strip' becomes a playground and bridle path. This exhibition on the occasion of the Third European Month of Photography in Berlin will also include some works of Krolow's which have become Kreuzberg icons.
Born in 1950, Wolfgang Krolow lives in the Chamisso quarter of Berlin. His photos have been appearing since 1980 in a wide range of periodicals, magazines and book publications.
