On Saturday, 1 November at 7.00 pm Berlinische Galerie, das Landesmuseum für Moderne Kunst, Fotografie und Architektur will host the formal opening of the Third European Month of Photography in Berlin. In the presence of the Governing Mayor of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit, the following exhibitions will be opened:
"Mutations II Moving Stills", a joint exhibition developed by the seven capital cities that are involved in the European Month of Photography, showing video works by European artists whose conceptual approach hovers on the borderline between photography and video.
So weit kein Auge reicht - Berliner Panoramafotografien aus den Jahren 1949-1952, ['As far as the eye can see panoramic photography in Berlin from the years 1949 and 1952'] is Berlinische Galerie's own contribution to the Third European Month of Photography. With its outsize panoramic photos, it promises a sensational view of collections that have never been exhibited before.
Hans Robertson Die Berliner Jahre. Fotografien 1926 - 1933 , ['Hans Robertson the Berlin years. Photographs from 1926 to 1933'] is another chance to see the work of the important Berlin photographer who flourished in the time of the Weimar Republic.
On the opening evening the Award of the European Month of Photography, presented by the Alcatel company, will be conferred for the first time in Berlin on one of the artists taking part in the 'Mutations II' exhibition.
Berlinische Galerie has made its entire ground floor available for the three exhibitions. Guided tours will be offered.
