On the occasion of the 150th birthday of studio founder Ernst Eichgrün (1858-1925), the museum pays tribute to the Eichgrün family of photographers and presents the essential stages in the development of their collective work.
Founded in Potsdam in 1890, the studio of court photographer Eichgrün was one of the most famous photographic studios in the royal residence city, as it then was. Its reputation, however, was based not so much on the photographer's studio portraits as on his pictures of public life especially his shots of the Hohenzollern family and the city's military garrison. He also left copious photographic documentation of the city of Potsdam. His son Walter Eichgrün (1887-1957) continued this tradition, as well as working in photographic journalism.
With the support of the Förderverein des Potsdam-Museums and the help of private donations, the museum has managed to bring together and acquire the photographic legacy of the Eichgrün family, which is presented in this exhibition for the first time.
