Dream of Prosperity / Nuclear Family. A photo essay by Kermit Berg 2009 – 2011

Curator's tour

Kermit Berg (*1951) found the inspiration for his series Wohlstandstraum / Nuclear Family (Dream of Prosperity / Nuclear Family) in the 1950s correspondence between his father and a West Berlin family and created an intimate portrait of the international connections between people during Cold War times. Both sides dreamed their dream of modernity and prosperity. The associative presentation goes far beyond the actual family history, leading today’s viewer to reflect on personal and social values, the threats they are subjected to, and German-American friendship.

The American artist’s photo essay is another contribution to the year’s theme WEST:BERLIN at the Stadtmuseum Berlin.
