Wondelgemse Meersen

Stephanie Kiwitt

Based on the long-term photographic project “Archiv für aktuelles Nichts”, in which he explored the aesthetic of the random and worthless, as well as legacies, Michael Disqué founded the Kleiner Raum für aktuelles Nichts in early 2017 to expand this search to the immaterial. In the eight-square-meter space, his works are shown alongside positions by other artists who share Disqué’s search for nothingness in various ways in exhibitions, performances, and readings.

Stephanie Kiwitt’s work “Wondelgemse Meersen” is presented as part of the EMOP Berlin. For over two years, the artist photographed fallow land north of Ghent. Using a highly cropped perspective, she focuses her camera on the state of materials; without ever offering an overall view of the region, she explores the chaos and dilapidated dwellings with fascination, the rubbish and proliferation of nature. The exhibition, based on the publication of the same name, was developed for the small space.
