In its freshly designed permanent exhibition, the Berlinische Galerie showcases about 250 works from its collection. This multifaceted chronological tour through art in Berlin from 1880 to 1980 begins with paintings influenced by the wealthy patrons of the Kaiser’s era in the late 19th century and leads through works of Expressionism and the East European avant-garde to the art and architecture of post-war modernism. Reflecting the interdisciplinary character of the collection, it takes the form of a dialogue between major paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, photographs, and architectural designs. These represent the diversity of artistic methods and styles, as well as the tensions, antitheses, and disruptions that remain a hallmark of Berlin as a hub of artistic output.

On October 22, 2020, the Berlinische Galerie collection presents itself in a new light – with a diverse and dynamic selection, including some rarely shown works.
