Tina Bara

Portrait photography can be considered the core of Tina Bara's artistic work, which understands and addresses the human body as a matrix of social inscriptions. Her process-oriented, media-reflective approach to photography is also poetic; her usual method is to accompany her subjects in particular spatial surroundings and over a longer period of time. Bara herself describes this approach as a ‘performative portrait’ and refines her representational means, which employ open, dialogical settings to formulate questions of urgent concern to her.

The exhibition brings together portraits from various creative periods, including current prints with recurrent subjects and motifs. In each respective series, Bara documents the moving story of a period in her protagonists’ life and development, and goes beyond the biographical to find her own form of poetic historical narration with photographic means.
