In the photographic works showing at the Touch. Politiken der Berührung (The Politics of Touch) exhibition during EMOP Berlin, Fabian Hesse and Mitra Wakil operate within post-photography: photographic forms that have become hybrid via their exploration and application of recent software developments, enabling the artist duo to create three-dimensional sculptures based on photographic templates – and to generate divergent spatial experiences by way of virtual reality. These are technological possibilities that place visual experience and image perception into increased tension with the reality that actually surrounds us. Cultural studies scholar and internet critic Vera Tollmann will speak with Hesse and Wakil about their artistic strategies and the social impacts these have for newly emerged virtual spaces.
