On the occasion of the EMOP Berlin 2023, Kicken Berlin presents the first show of the new exhibition series Lichttropfen(Drops of Light). In keeping with its original founding name, the gallery plans on using this new format to shed light on aspects of photographic history and current media discussions. 

The show opens with the new series Inside-Out by Götz Diergarten, whose serial and typological works follow in the tradition of his teacher Bernd Becher and are exclusively in colour, in the spirit of American colour photography. Diergarten’s attention is drawn to the exceptional within the everyday. In Inside-Out, this emerges in the form of structured glass panes that refract what they frame into images of tachist colour suspended in a fertile interplay between transparency and opacity. Presented as light boxes, they become ‘images of light’ in a dual sense.

Diergarten’s works engage in dialogue with those of Peter Keetman, Werner Mantz, Jaroslav Rössler, Karl Hugo Schmölz and others. As classic architectural photographs and structural abstractions, they address photography as a medium unto itself.
