Contemporary African Photography
The exhibition brings together works by more than twenty artists with the aim of redefining how Africa is represented in the global narrative. Inspired by the continent’s historical cultural richness and its current socio-political landscape, the exhibition draws on the philosophy of Cameroonian thinker Achille Mbembe, who proposes imagining a ‘world in common’ by ‘thinking the world from Africa’. The exhibition aims to challenge conventional perceptions and promote a view of Africa that places the continent at the centre of a shared global future. In their art, these photographers and filmmakers challenge the limitations often imposed by stereotypical representations, emphasizing the continent’s diverse realities as well as its potential to influence broader human stories. The exhibition is divided into three thematic sections dedicated to the themes of Identity and Tradition, Counter-histories, and Imagined Futures.
