Dana Lorenz and Sophia Kesting present their artist publication “Asphalt, Steine, Scherben”, published by Vexer Verlag in 2024, in conversation with the author and curator Christin Müller. In the publication, the artists use analog photographs to explore the question of how the stagnation of a large wasteland in the middle of Leipzig can be a space for possibility and thought for collective memories, identity attributions, alienation and utopias. Biographical text fragments woven into the work draw on the artists' memories of their own childhoods during the social upheaval of 1989/90 and reflect the historical dimension of documentary photography in the present. Excerpts from the text “Auf einem Platz vagabundierende Zeit” by Christin Müller, written for the publication, as well as the biographical fragments of memory and poetic inventories of the square woven in by the two artists will be read alternately.
