Mårten Lange: Cave, 2024, aus der Serie The Palace, Pigment-Print, 40 x 26 cm
With The Palace, Swedish photographer Mårten Lange presents a series of photographic images of churches, ruins, and archaeological sites taken across Europe. Lange focuses on the basic elements of architecture such as doors, windows, and stairs and develops an evocative visual world brimming with secret passageways and hiding places. Rather than telling a clear story about a specific place, these architectural archetypes invite the viewer to construct their own labyrinth. At the same time, they emphasize the emotional charge that architecture can be infused with. Lange’s minimalist compositions reflect the temporal aspects of space and our ephemeral presence in it.
Mårten Lange (b. 1984) explores the themes of nature, technology, architecture, and urbanity. Employing a photographic language of reduction and concentration, Lange transforms everyday phenomena into images that are both clear and poetic. His works are published and exhibited internationally, most recently at the Hamburg Kunsthalle, the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, and at the Rencontres in Arles.
