Nikita Teryoshin: Nothing Personal
The Back Office of War

In his series Nothing Personal, Nikita Teryoshin takes a look behind the scenes of the global arms business to reveal the ‘back office of war’ as an oversized playground for adults with wine, finger food, and shiny weapons. The images, taken at international arms fairs around the world (2016–2024), point to actual players without making them individually visible. War is staged for the benefit of high-ranking guests, heads of state, generals, and dealers; dead bodies are represented by mannequins or pixels on a screen. The photographs in Nothing Personal speak about the disturbingly impersonal business of war, often passed off as ‘engineering a better tomorrow. Nikita Teryoshin’s serial work (prints and photo book) makes the viewer painfully aware that these sites of military consumption serve the goal of preparing for destruction and acquiring the equipment for a potential real-life confrontation with murderous weapons. They threaten a peaceful coexistence between nations, regions, and the people who inhabit our planet.
