An Artistic Examination of the Independent Women's and Lesbian Movement in the GDR
Luise Schröder's artist publication Strömungen in Bewegung (Currents in Motion) thematises the often forgotten activities of non-governmental women's and lesbian groups in the GDR in the 1980s and 1990s, both in terms of content and aesthetics. The image and text material used comes from the GrauZone collection of the archive of the GDR opposition and has been artistically edited and alienated by Luise Schröder. The artist not only deals with the historical void, but also sheds light on the significance of archives as powerful institutions and the relationship between self-empowerment and resistance. The publication Strömungen in Bewegung will be published by Fotohof Edition in March 2025.
