Vernissage: Johnny Miller – Unequal Scenes & Saltworks
Johnny Miller, Thomas Gust

On Saturday, 8 March 2025, the vernissage of the exhibition Johnny Miller - Unequal Scenes & Saltworks will take place at Galerie Buchkunst Berlin. The photographer will be present.

The photographs from the Unequal Scenes series, taken with a drone, show the territorial transitions and borders, the spatial separation between neighbourhoods and social classes and groups, thus highlighting economic and social inequalities. At the same time, the unusual perspective and formal aesthetics create a pattern of abstractions, the decoding of which is fascinating, but at the same time points to the problems and interrelationships of global developments. His photographs show in an artistically unique and equally impressive way that (our) prosperity can only be achieved through the exploitation of others and illustrate the organisational structures underlying this principle.

In the Saltworks series, Miller's overhead photographs show installations for the extraction of sea salt in Africa, San Francisco and Mexico. Here, too, the suggestive power of formal beauty and modernity is simultaneously an expression of exploitation and the inevitable change and destruction of the environment.
