The Photographs of Ann-Christine Jansson
In the context of global crises and conflicts and debates over the rise in right-wing populist movements across Europe, it’s important to recall German history and the time before and after the fall of the Berlin Wall. For decades, with great sensitivity, the Berlin-based Swedish photojournalist Ann-Christine Jansson has been documenting the upheavals in the formerly divided and now reunited city, as well as its people, who fought for social change on both sides of the Wall and brought about the historical events.
‘I try to tell the German-German story by getting close to people’. Jansson’s focus is on the feelings of those she portrays. Her images show fear, anger, courage, despair, joy, scepticism, and hope. In the photos of A JOURNEY THROUGH TIME, Jansson’s subjective view brings the spirit of those years to life, providing an impetus for understanding, exchange, and dialogue.
