Between Strausberger Platz and Alexanderplatz: Guided Tour of Karl-Marx-Allee, 2nd Construction Phase
Claudia Nier

The 2nd construction phase of Karl-Marx-Allee between Alexanderplatz and Strausberger Platz was planned and realized in the GDR in the early 1960s. It embodied the paradigm shift towards socialist modernism - not only was the avenue planned, but also the entire hinterland as a high-quality residential complex. The idea of new housing was implemented under the conditions of industrial, standardized construction and is still exemplary today for an idea that has endured in its modernity. Due to its cultural and architectural-historical significance as well as its structural uniqueness, the residential area has been an urban development promotion area since 2015.

Claudia Nier from Nachbarschaftsrat KMA II e.V. invites you on a tour of this area, which is interesting in many respects, and talks about the history of the district as well as current and future projects.

MEETING PLACE
In front of the Rathaus Berlin-Mitte, Karl Marx-Allee 31, 10178 Berlin
