Ranggeln wrestling is one of the oldest martial arts in the Alpine region. Records exist of grip techniques, clothing, and venues since the fifteenth century. The highlight of each tournament is the title ‘Hagmoar’, which honours the best contestant. At the centre of Anna Aicher’s work are children and young people who grow up with these old traditions and continue to observe them. Infused with her own memories of coming of age in the country, she observes the competitions, blending documentary and staged moments. The photographs present the test of strength as a ritual of growing up and a search for one’s place in society.
