It Works This Way Too
Eva Bodemer, Astrid Piethan, Stefan Schilling, Frank Schumacher

The four projects of this exhibition reflect individual emotions and collective social structures to address personal experiences and the dynamic influence urban life exerts on people. Eva Bodemer enquires into technological and natural structures both manufactured and grown. In The Azure and Biosemiotics, she combines plants, animal tracks, and anthropogenic objects to create artificial scenes of a hybrid world. In Johnny, Astrid Piethan portrays the young and tender but equally determined beginnings of self-perception, self-image, and personal identity. For Webertal, Stefan Schilling hikes through parts of Wuppertal dominated by industrial architecture to look at the layers of the city’s history in a time of the fourth industrial revolution. Living realities of young people in a world marked by the climate crisis, a shift to the right, and political populism are the starting points in Frank Schumacher’s Monde exposé series, which presents a fragmentary picture of a youth that positions itself in a complex network of challenges and feelings.
