Evelyn Bencicova
Evelyn Bencicova

Growing up in a high-rise housing block in Bratislava, Evelyn Bencicova (b. 1992) would spend time observing the lives of her neighbours through a pair of binoculars. What these binoculars failed to disclose, the artist imagined, fusing reality and fiction – a creative method that fuels her photographic series, audio-visual pieces, and VR projects to this day.

Bencicova studied at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna and works serially, often with other artists. For the past decade, she has used photography and new media to explore traces of the past in former socialist countries, the differences between humans and machines, and the increasing inability to distinguish between reality and its representation. Made between 2016 and 2025, the works address these and other themes and invite visitors to delve into Bencicova’s thought-provoking worlds.

Curated by Dr. Candice M. Hamelin and supported by Jaeger Art, Immersion will be accompanied by a performance and an artist’s talk at the Reinbeckhallen.
