Johanna Jaeger’s work probes the conditions and limitations of the medium of photography. Her fifth one-person show at Schwarz Contemporary circles around the magical moment in developing analogue photographs when the image starts to materialize in the developer tray. The exhibition space is transformed into a room-sized installation, a ‘walk-in developer tray’, so to speak, designed to turn the photographic process into a physically immersive experience. The viewer is invited to walk through superimposed motifs projected into the space, while the gradation in ambient light from dark to bright points to the conditions governing our perception.

Among other things, works from the series permanent liquid will be on view, which consists of photographs of highly ephemeral things such as bleeding ink, developer stains on photo paper and shifting clouds.
