Katarzyna Kozyra

In this year’s EMOP Berlin 2023, Persons Projects presents a one-person exhibition by the Polish-born artist Katarzyna Kozyra. On view are the photographic series and accompanying video work Fressen (Gorging), distilled from the documentary footage of a performance of the same title realized in the fall of 2021 at Warsaw’s Teatr Powszechny.

Thematically, the work is an artistic staging of the so-called ‘Landshut Wedding’ (1475), one of the most important political events in German–Polish history. The re-enactment involves elaborate preparations for the feast as well as the collective act of dining together with the public. Additional references are made to Kozyra’s artistic interest in the human body and the subject of gluttony.

Presenting the exhibition to a German audience will not only build bridges between the German and Polish art scenes and culinary cultures, but also give rise to a collective experience that goes beyond national borders.
