METAMORPHOSIS
Heinz Hajek-Halke´s Photomontages & New Image-Makers

To mark the 100th anniversary of the first photomontages by art photographer Heinz Hajek-Halke, the group exhibition METAMORPHOSIS takes the artist’s work between 1925 and 1935 as its point of departure.

Hajek-Halke (1898–1983) is one of the most important experimental German art photographers of the twentieth century. From the beginning of his career, inspired by cinema, his search for new visual compositions led him to various techniques such as multiple exposure and collage, which he used to create dynamic images. His innovative photographs were published regularly in illustrated magazines and newspapers and made him very well known.

Many of Heinz Hajek-Halke’s photomontages have gone down in photographic history and continue to inspire generations of visual practitioners today. In addition to rediscovering his early work, this exhibition builds a bridge to current forms of image composition, from photo collage to digitally edited montage.

CHAUSSEE 36 PHOTOGRAPHY is pleased to celebrate its 10th anniversary with this group exhibition and a special program that will run throughout 2025.
