Twenty-three photographers from the Herspective Photographers collective look at in-between space. The clearance required for a passing manoeuvre in shipping is called passing distance. How much space is necessary, and at what point in time, to ensure safe passage? Concentration, communication, trust, and reliability are needed to maintain proper distance. If the right of the strongest applies, collisions become possible, leading to friction, energy, and tension. The exhibition enquires into the meaning of in-between spaces in the photographic discourse. Are they narrowing because each position has its own demands? What happens when they increase so much that the connection breaks down?

As an exhibition venue, the former shopping centre in the heart of Neukölln offers an exciting backdrop. Before its current use for various event formats, it served as living quarters for refugees. On many levels, their stories of room, fate, hope, and struggle are interwoven with the space.

Herspective Photographers is an association of photographers that formed to stage effective and targeted cultural actions. Their declared goals are support, visibility, and agency for each individual.
