(I) Remember Europe
Patricia Morosan

(I) Remember Europe is a photographic journey that reveals the centre as an existential striving, a geographical definition and a political metaphor. Since there are different methods of determining the centre, seven different countries lay claim to being the centre point of Europe – and each of them has erected their own monument to commemorate it.Such centres can be found in Germany, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, Ukraine, Belarus and Slovakia. The shifts the centre has experienced are not merely the result of a ‘larger’ history, but also of movements and adjustments that anyone travelling through these lands experiences on a daily basis.

Patricia Morosan’s project is less an attempt at capturing the essence of a supposed European identity than a willingness to let go of the notion. With each new encounter, the photographer explores new centres, which she describes as the ‘world’s edges’ or new in-between spaces.
