The exhibition The Forest for the Trees is dedicated to works that observe patriarchal power dynamics and their profound social implications in a multi-layered way. Re-contextualizing normative imagery enables us to reflect on mechanisms of oppression. Discrimination is not just visible on the surface, but is deeply embedded in social and cultural structures – subtly woven into images, interpersonal relationships, memories, and everyday experience.

The artists in the show juxtapose found footage, staged photography, and documentary, exploring the photographic medium’s diverse potential and introducing methodological approaches to representation by breaking and further developing photographic traditions. In the process, photography is used as a key means of analyzing power relations, offering both a multi-layered discourse on the possibilities and limits of visual representation and constructive ways of dealing with these power relations.
