Viviane Sassen
Viviane Sassen

Photography not only has the power to change perspectives; itcreate becomes a space where different perspectives converge. Viviane Sassen’s work invites viewers to pour their own histories and associations into her images, becoming co-creators in a deeply personal artistic process. She starts from a place of vulnerability, opening herself up to viewers’ participation.

‘I can’t really explain my fascination with shapes, but it has to do with how my brain works. I transform three dimensions into two. I’ve always enjoyed experimenting with perspective. As a child, I played games like closing one eye and then the other, to see how the view changed. I’ve always been interested in body shapes and the sculptural aspects of the body. I used to stand in front of the mirror with a large towel, creating new shapes that I stored in my mind, which I now use in my work. This way of seeing is what I’ve brought to photography as a technique’, Viviane Sassen explains.
