Johanna-Maria Fritz

Johanna-Maria Fritz finds her subjects in zones of conflict and war, failing states, among persecuted minorities, and on the fringes of society. This exhibition takes a look at the 30-year-old photographer’s work, which is already impressive. Fritz is a journalist, and her images are published in international media. She often works on different topics simultaneously, with interruptions, and she returns again and again to places and people. Fritz usually stays for longer periods, lives with the people she photographs, and develops new works from her photographs, such as the carpets she had woven from portraits of Taliban fighters. They were made by girls whom the Islamists forbid from attending school.
