Markus Oberndorfer & Gregor Sailer: Border Crossers

An Exhibition Curated by EIKON

Markus Oberndorfer, Gregor Sailer

On the occasion of the European Month of Photography, and in cooperation with LORIS – Gallery for Contemporary Art in Berlin, the Vienna-based EIKON – International Magazine for Photography and Media Art will carry out what is, in many respects, an artists’ exchange that crosses borders. The LORIS photo artists will exhibit in Vienna, and, in return, EIKON will present works by artists with ties to the magazine in the gallery in Berlin.
Addressing the theme of Upheavals and Utopias, EIKON has chosen two young Austrian artists who investigate political and social boundaries in different ways. Markus Oberndorfer traces the Atlantic Wall in Cap Ferret, which was built during World War II; his work explores how people today relate to this historic fortification. In contrast, Gregor Sailer enters residential areas hermetically sealed from the outside whose appearance is closely connected to the challenges facing the 21st century: dwindling resources, political conflicts, and an exaggerated need for security.
