Perpetuum Mobile

A city in permanent motion

Teilnehmer/innen des Fotomarathons | Participants in the Photo Marathon

Berlin is a Perpetuum Mobile through and through; constantly in motion and full of energy, this city never stands still. The Photo Marathon has been photographically recording visible and otherwise palpable social changes in Berlin since 1998. These pictures show us crisis and conflict, tradition and ritual, decay and gentrification. Berlin natives and global tribes alike dominate the urban stage. We present photographs made during the Photo Marathon Berlin on June 14, 2014. On this day, within a twelve-hour time period, over 300 participants came up with photographic equivalents for twelve individual themes with the common slogan ‘The city is full of contradictions.’
The Berlin Photo Marathon also cooperates with photographers in Shenyang, São Paulo, Vienna, and Liège who also interpret their own urban Perpetuum Mobile. A selection of these will be shown in Berlin. In order to give festival visitors an opportunity to capture this constant motion in images as well, we will organise a mini Photo Marathon on November 15, 2014 (four hours, six themes). All photos will be shown in the form of a slide show after the mini Photo Marathon.
