How do young people feel about Europe today?
In the early 21st century, the European process of integration is assessed in various ways. Social dislocations in individual member countries, the aftermath of the financial crisis, and red tape act as negative factors, while the difficult struggle for even the smallest gain often arouses scepticism.
A larger picture is reflected in the way individual people feel, think, and act. The will to change begins with the way we deal with the people around us. If we understand each other, we may have a better chance at understanding Europe.
As part of a joint project, photography students of the BEST-Sabel Designschule Berlin have chosen various approaches to address this. They remind us of refugee movements during the Cold War; they visit places symbolising an era of political confrontation and question current social developments. Their pictorial narratives invite viewers to enter into dialogue with one another.
