Sven Marquardt. StageLess

Sven Marquardt

In October 2019, Sven Marquardt took portraits of members of the international ensemble, FriedrichstadtPalast Berlin, just after their performance. In some portraits, the posture and expression show the subject is still on an adrenaline high, whereas in others more intimate moments are revealed. Marquardt offers an unprettified take on transitions from the dramatic, masklike stage character to the dancer’s tense, tired face after the show. Less than six months after the shoot, the portrayed artists lost their familiar stage, when all performances until December had to be cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. In cooperation with C/O Berlin, the FriedrichstadtPalast presents the exhibition ‘Sven Marquardt . StageLess’: works by the photographic chronicler of identities and curator of clubgoers on Berlin’s techno scene.
