FACES: IRELAND
Kevin Abosch
World renowned Irish visual artist Kevin Abosch presents a series of photographic portraits whereby each citizen is manifested within a curated artistic body of work as an individual, a representative of the citizenries of Germany and Ireland, and a mirror within which the viewer may see themselves reflected as someone sharing in the human experience. Abosch endeavours to remove the mask of persona so that what remains in these works are human portraits unencumbered by reputation, social status or even health: a document of the human condition. He seeks to manifest the citizen as art by proclaiming the citizen as our most abundant and valuable cultural resource. The benefit to society is manifold. By showing the citizen, not as hero but as human, the opportunity arises to teach a valuable lesson about what is truly important, to instil a sense of belonging to something greater than the self.
