‘If we stay here, we remain visible – which gives us the power to make a difference politically. If we leave Oranienplatz, then we’ll become invisible once again.’
For the exhibition The European Dream – Selfies from Oranienplatz, refugees who formerly lived in the protest camp on Oranienplatz kept photographic journals over a period of six months. Their photographs paint a picture of life after their eviction from Oranienplatz in April 2014, of a summer in Berlin, of daily life in their new residence on Gürtelstraße, of demonstrations and their applications for asylum. With the refugees as authors of their own stories, the exhibition shows where their dreams of utopia stand now, one half year later – presented at the former location of their protest.
