about photography (and me)

Oliver S. Scholten

Oliver S. Scholten has been dedicated to the medium of photography over the past thirty years as an artist and educator, examining its various aspects in virtually every manner possible. His works range from objects and installations that question the medium as such, classic documentary photography, image ensembles and photographic prints, to performance that ends up in a visual form. Scholten is less interested in spectacle or complicated arrangements than in the connections photography and its usage can forge to the world and the self. In his work, even the depiction of his own person is not a mere reference to his own history, but a symbol for the user and viewer of photography and art in general.
With the exhibition about photography (and me) as part of the European Month of Photography Berlin 2016, the Galerie Carpentier shows a selection of various photographic and object-based works from Oliver S. Scholten’s thirty-year oeuvre.
