The photo exhibition Filmriss (blackout) brings together fourteen positions that illuminate the term in all its diversity, ranging from the concrete to the abstract/metaphorical. Stories are told with wrecked pictures at the end of analogue film sequences; the works embark on associative journeys through colours and landscapes. The focus is on the representation of the infinite expanse of time and space; the reawakening of old memories; the chaotic collapse of an original idea before it arises reconstituted in a new form; the appearance of internal ruptures among the portraits’ subjects as well as the quiet observation and discovery of oneself in others; the rebellion against forgetting, memory and its loss in the long-term portraiture of an Alzheimer’s patient; the attempt to theatrically smooth over the cracks in one’s own biography and the portraying of a hedonist’s intoxicated states. The works document the aimlessness in the modern world and the photographic flotsam and jetsam of the Berlin night.
This exhibition is dedicated to our photographer Marion Elias, who departed from us in March 2016 after a grave illness.
