Leica Oskar Barnack Award 2016

12 finalists of the international and venerable 36th Leica Camera AG photography competition

The exhibition presents works by the twelve finalists of the international and venerable 36th Leica Camera AG photography competition. Each year, a high-calibre international jury selects the winners of the Leica Oskar Barnack Award and the Leica Oskar Barnack Newcomer Award. The jury places particular emphasis on the photographers’ unerring powers of observation; in completed series of up to twelve images, they give visual expression to the relationship between humans and their environment. Among the winners of recent years areMartin Kollar (2014), Mikhael Subotzky (2009), Dominic Nahr (2009), Jane Evelyn Atwood (1997) and Sebastiao Salgado (1985 and 1992). With prizes totalling around 80,000 euros, the Leica Oskar Barnack Award is one of the highest-endowed photography competitions in the field.
