Parno Gras: mukline Evropljanura

The White Horse: the neglected Europeans

Nihad Nino Pušija

The photo series Parno Gras: mukline Evropljanura explores the lives and fates of the Romany in Europe. The work gives rise to social and political questions, not least concerning the refugee status of the Romany.
‘I have always seen art as an effective means for calling attention to injustice and making it visible. My long-term photographic documentations often focus on the marginalized in Europe, among them many Romany. I augment my pictures with their personal stories and histories, thereby offering more insider perspectives. My art and photography are always closely connected to my life. The more time I spend in a place, the more intense and authentic my experience there becomes, and consequently my artistic experience and production. Part of my strategy and sense of responsibility is that I often live and work with the same people for years, decades. Accompanying the situation of the Romany photographically is no short-lived safari for taking quick snapshots.’ Nihad Nino Pušija
